What an MVP actually is

MVP stands for Minimum Viable Product. The name is jargon; the idea is simple. It's the smallest version of your idea that still does the one thing that matters, put in front of real people to see if they bite.

You're not trying to launch the finished thing. You're trying to answer one question, cheaply: does anyone actually want this? A full build assumes the answer is yes and spends accordingly. An MVP finds out first.

One we built

Camping Bible

A creator with more than half a million camping followers kept getting asked the same question: which campsites do you actually recommend? The demand was obvious. What wasn't obvious was whether it could be a business.

Two things were unproven. Would people use a dedicated platform instead of just asking in the comments? And, the one that really decided it, would campsites get on board? They're the ones who'd generate the income, so their yes was the whole ballgame. He'd tried to cobble something together on Wix, and it couldn't do what the idea needed.

So we built the smallest real version that could answer both. A curated discovery platform where every site is personally visited and approved, with a provisional booking request that emails the campsite direct. Listings free at first, on purpose, so the only question left was whether operators would say yes.

That's the whole point of an MVP. It doesn't guess. It puts the real thing in front of real campers and real campsites and lets the take-up answer the question, before anyone spends on the operator portals, the subscriptions or the live booking that come later.
